The impact of these heroic figures goes beyond action scenes and box office dollars.

It seemed like an accident waiting to happen.
A term that seemed like it would never be defined or have an example.
And inspired by legend that had never succeeded before.
Just ten years ago, a ship sailed
That the world would never forget.
It’s captain? A man in a red and gold suit. Made of Iron.
His name was Tony Stark.
In his own words, a billionaire. A genius. A philanthropist. A scientist. A fighter.
But ultimately,
A game changer.
The ship he sailed was a 2008 feature film with the same name as his alter ego.
Iron Man.
And the fleet that followed included,
A Norse God, An angry green bodybuilder, A patriotic crossfitter,
A man with eyes and weapons like a hawk, and a fearless fighter with an outfit black as night.
This fleet? They called themselves
The Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This fleet has changed our world as we know it.
It’s raised billions of dollar out of its mere shock-and-awe.
It’s broken ground with its visual effects and inspiration of children.
And it’s even pleased the staff of Rotten Tomatoes.
What happened followed was yet another fleet.
The last survivor of a lost planet. The living and breathing definition of a strong woman.
And, of course, yet another billionaire.
The DC Extended Universe has created shock of its own.
And combined, these universes have defined the word we have known for ages:
Superhero.
Humans who want to be extraordinary. Or extraordinaries who just want to be humans.
Epics who stand out from the civilians. Epics who explore what it means to be humans.
Superheroes.
Are they fantasy? Are they science fiction? Or are they real?
That question will always be answered. You can try to answer it, but any answer is just opinion.
Superheroes aren’t just in the cinematic universes you see on screen.
Marvel and DC have just set examples.
While the productions we see from them may seem like bland attempts to empty our wallets,
They mean something.
They mean that game-changers and those who do good are living among us.
They mean that life as we know it doesn’t always have to face adversity.
They show that problems of humans are created by none other than human perception.
And those who make better places for all humans don’t have to have superpowers.
But the desire to create a better place is the only thing it takes…to be
A superhero.
